Fire Safety at Waterside Court
If the fire alarm sounds, residents must leave their room immediately, closing but not locking their door, and make their way to the fire assembly point outside the building using the stairs and not the lift. Residents must not re-enter the building until told it is safe to do so by a fire marshal or the fire service. Fire alarms must never be ignored, even if a drill or false alarm is suspected. Fire doors must not be propped open as they are designed to prevent the spread of fire and smoke. Candles, incense sticks and open flames are not permitted in rooms. Cooking must not be left unattended as this is the most common cause of fire alarms in student accommodation. Any fire safety concerns, including faulty smoke detectors, missing extinguishers or blocked fire exits, should be reported to reception immediately on 01244 667576.
